A lionfish is extremely beautiful as it floats through the water but highly venomous to the touch. I find the duality and contrasting interpretation of many objects and symbols fascinating. It is my observation that beauty can be inspiring or toxic for the subject and the viewer in our culture. The young woman’s appearance also documents the rapid changes in perceptions of beauty that follow the body decorating trends of recent decades.
