As Red as the Sun is a piece that reflects those hazy, nostalgic, and vaguely memorable summer days I spent as a child growing up in old, rural northeastern Pennsylvania. The painting is of an old door that opens up to an outside woods landscape. The scene is based off of a photograph taken at the old Huber Coal Breaker before it was demolished in 2014, in my hometown, Ashley, PA.
