The lives of the Crow Indians followed the patterns of the great bison herds on the Plains. Their possessions were few but precious. Some endowed with magic or mystical significance, were part of their religious rituals and ceremonies. Others, such as the war medicine bonnet portrayed here, were signs of rank. The split horn on the bonnet was an ornament worn only by very brave warriors.
