To quote Ernest Hemingway, "With so many trees in the city, you could see the Spring coming each day until a night of warm wind would bring it suddenly in one morning. Sometimes the heavy cold rains would beat it back so that it would seem that it would never come and that you were losing a season out of your life. This was the only true sad time in Paris because it was unnatural. You expected to be sad in the Fall. Part of you died each year when the leaves fell from the trees and their branches were bare against the wind and the cold, wintry light. But you knew there would always be the Spring, as you knew the river would flow again after it was frozen. When the cold rains kept on and killed the Spring, it was though a young person had died for no reason.

In those days, though, the Spring always came finally, but it was frightening that it had nearly failed."

Alas....Spring has finally come!

The palette of Hemingway's words had painted the tonality of the seasons. Words reflecting anticipation and anxiety. The torture of time, waiting and change and the uncertainty. The proverbial darkest before the light moment. But the certainty and change do come. And it's all good!

Lovetts has a lot of good things springing up and changing at the gallery too, so let me share with you what those things are. Bear in mind, none of the changes are changes that change Lovetts. (I dare you to say that fast 3 times in a row) Seriously, who doesn't hate it when one of your favorite restaurants decides to add new things to the menu but they took off all your favorites dishes! Uhhh...not your favorite eating spot anymore. We will never change what makes us Lovetts Gallery. We are just adding a few desserts!

The wonderful family of artists we represent are working hard all four seasons of the year, therefore we are receiving new works by them weekly. Trying to feature it all is an overwhelming task and Lovetts website is your go-to for all that information. I would like to say something about art that sets it apart from most other things. Age. Art is never old. Art doesn't become outdated. A great piece of art holds its emotional and visual value to the collector. I'm not talking about a piece that's chosen to match the couch. Couch's get replaced. Trends come and go. Color palettes of interiors change. To really appreciate art to its fullest, one needs to think and live outside the box. Lovetts Gallery has always chosen the "outside of the box" as far as the typical gallery goes. No stark white walls with a painting every 6-8 feet, no same colors or subject matter. Just no matchy -matchy. Don't misunderstand, there is certainly a place for having continuity in style and collection for cohesiveness, but there is always more than one path for being an art collector. For example, when you are here in the gallery at Lovetts and your viewing the great mix of work we have, be that paintings, wood, glass, sculpture and the like, it is an extremely eclectic display. And it works! Eclecticness can have order. It is visually stimulating, diverse and interesting. This can be formidable process for many people to venture as old habits are hard to break or trying something new or different can be intimidating. But it is simply and most importantly injecting yourself more personally into your surroundings, being at your home or business. "Being yourself" ...that may sound over-simplistic, but you would be surprised at how many people are unsure of what they really like or are timid to act on their own tastes. Whatever the reasons, art is a great avenue to step out and explore yourself.

Like Hemingway's words.... Changing can feel the same way. Just when you thought you were losing a season out of your life....... a new one comes. What will your new Spring bring you or rather what will you bring to your new Spring?

This letter can't accommodate all the news I would wish to share due to its volume. On Lovetts Gallery website you can see all the artists and their works we carry. The Wall is our blog that features them along with details on Facebook and our other social media sites. We can make acquirements for what's not in house as well. Let us know what you are searching for.

Lovetts Gallery is additionally providing artists prints now. You asked. We are delivering.

Frame mouldings aren't immune to changing seasons either. As some inevitably get discontinued, many new, lovely and striking ones are débuted. An appropriate and professional frame job is a work of art in itself. As I speak, we have an 1800's historical hand written document of a clients that we will be conservation framing as soon as the restoration lab has completed their work on it. We don't have to go to the museum...the museum comes to us!

The MIRROR/MIRROR exhibition for June is presently in the works. And will be until its show time. I will keep you posted as we move along.

New store hours:

Beginning the week of April 10th. Lovetts Gallery will be closed on Sunday and Monday and open Tuesday through Saturday with our normal times 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM

A lot of things are sprouting up this new Spring at Lovetts Gallery! So, we hope you hop in to the gallery. Or walk. Or skip. Or jump. Or even dance if you so feel. Running?.... not so much.

WELCOME TO THE IMAGINATION

A last word on aging.................

What I desire to relate about the subject of age with art in all is forms, is that its ageless. A piece done 1 year, 10 years or 1000 years ago, is no different than the piece that's been finished today with fresh and drying paint. Some artists over time may go in a new direction, changing form, changing subject matter, changing the medium they work in. Many times, it's actually a matter of timing; when the right person, sees that right piece, at the right time. In the end...art....is a reflection. Of life and time. Of an artist. Of you! It's in that reflection we connect. Art doesn't seek a fountain of youth. It's part of the fountain of life by its beauty and enrichment. I hope you tell your eyes "thank you" today, for what a wonderful gift to your body they are. A sense to see, adds much depth to our living experience. Make all your spaces the "living room". Come connect to the ageless.
