JANET MAINES
After graduating with a liberal arts degree from Louisiana State University in Shreveport,
Janet Maines established a graphic design company, building brand identity, advertising,
and web design. In 2014, God graciously widened her opportunities when she ran across
a Facebook post from one of her previous college instructors. It put an insatiable hunger
for fine art deep inside her. His charcoal portrait caught Janet’s eye and gave her an
additional passion - this time for human face and form.
Since that awakening, Janet has shown her graphite, charcoal and pastel art in galleries,
including Sotheby’s in NYC. Her work has won awards in competitions of the Portrait
Society of America and the Art Renewal Center, as well as regional and local competitions.
One winning piece was included in a time capsule on the Lunar Codex project through
NASA and SpaceX. The Odysseus lunar lander is parked permanently on the south pole of
the moon.
Janet’s drawings have been featured in American Art Collector Magazine, the Journal
of the Portrait Society of America, Pastel Journal, The Best of Drawing, Country Roads
Magazine, SB Magazine, and 318 Forum Magazine, and she was featured as a Master
Artist in International Artist Magazine. Online, her work has been shown in exhibitions with
The Almenara Art Prize, and Richeson Gallery. She is a member of the Portrait Society of
America, Artists Network, and is both a Roster and a Collectible Artist with the Shreveport
Regional Arts Council.
Janet shares her passion for drawing with students both in person and online. She offers
workshops frequently for portraiture and landscapes in a variety of media.
