Late spring is the time of year for a much-anticipated fruit season for me......cherries! I look forward to the day they show up in the grocery stores. Besides loving the taste of cherries, I always find myself admiring the luscious red colors. When the cherries began appearing in the stores this year we were already dealing with the onslaught of the Covid pandemic. I found the phrase life is just a bowl of cherries going through my head. I decided to turn it into a painting. I decided to give the setup a more natural feel, so I set the bowl of cherries inside an old wooden fruit crate that I have. I wanted the phrase to be apparent even for someone not reading the title of the painting, so I pulled out my old set of scrabble letters and used tacky clay to stick them on the crate behind the cherries. I decided to let the viewer complete the phrase in their head looking at the setup. Viola...the painting came to be.
