Love or Farewell or Recognition draws its inspiration from James Joyce's Eveline, a story suspended between longing, fear, and the inability to move forward. At its conclusion, Eveline remains motionless as the opportunity for a new life slips away. Her emotional paralysis is expressed through Joyce's haunting line, "Her eyes gave him no sign of love or farewell or recognition."

I chose to explore, through this drawing, the emotional stalemate that arises when a situation seems insurmountable. Like Eveline, the possible consequences of taking action appear no worse than the suffering already being endured, yet fear, memory, and uncertainty can become their own prison. In the end, the greatest obstacle is often ourselves.
