The horse has hailstone designs, a sun symbol around the eye and a hand print. These are power symbols. Native Americans used these because they believed they could acquire these powers if they painted on their horses.
The man has Comanche leggings with traditional stepped fret designs symbolizing mountains. His shield has the painted sun, as it was considered to be the source of like and meant life to the Native Americans.
