Melanie Florio is a California painter, born in 1983 in San Diego. She began painting at age 16 under the instruction of Lela Harty and continued her education at the Laguna College of Art and Design (LCAD) where she specialized in drawing and painting and received her MFA in 2007.
She has been working as a fine artist and illustrator and teaches college art classes in Los Angeles. Melanie’s work celebrates modern life through a nostalgic lens that offers an open-ended and subtle narrative. “I want my work to capture the everyday iconography of us, with a wink and a smile.” Melanie’s current series “Chicken Scratch”, explores time-honored chicken and other bird-related clichés in her playful, narrative style.
