BRANDON BORGELT
Brandon grew up in Johannesburg his pets included snakes and monkeys and everything in between. In his teens he worked part time at the Durban Dolphinarium and Snake Park. And after 2 years of compulsory national service he worked in various game reserves where he became a head Ranger. From there he was recruited by a company that was busy making wildlife documentaries for National Geographic and the BBC. Needing a more settled existence he eventually became the manager of the Sun City Crocodile farm which he ran for 12 yrs.
It was only in 2010 that Brandon decided to give sculpting a try, his first piece was a life size bust of a Native American warrior and medicine man by the name of Fool Bull. Working from a single historical photo taken well over 100 years ago and inspired by the profound impact that the Native American culture has had on the world, he cast his first bronze and set it on a lump of granite.
Brandon had suddenly arrived. He found a medium through which he could finally express the feeling of his emotion, his naturalist philosophy and develop the mastery of his skills. In 2016 he became a full time sculptor and has built up an impressive portfolio, much of his work coming from commissions. He is a versatile artist with the rare ability of being able to sculpt in any size, style or subject.
