"TATANKA IYOTAKA 1837 - 1890. Undoubtedly the most prominent Indian leader in history. As a renowned medicine man and chief of the Hunkpapa Sioux, Sitting Bull wielded enormous power and influence over the Lakota nation as a whole. Contrary to popular belief, he never took part in the Battle of the Little Bighorn where General Custer and the 7th Cavalry were annihilated, but his vision of a massive victory over the US Army gave much power to chief Gall and Crazy Horse who led the combined forces of the Sioux and Cheyenne. Following this, Sitting Bull began the Ghost Dance Movement and on the 15 Dec 1890, on the Standing Rock Agency, he was shot dead by lieutenant Bull Head and Red Tomahawk of the Indian Police while attempting to arrest him under orders of the Army. Thus, another of his prophecies was fulfilled... that he would be killed by his own people."
