Kept at Bay is another in my Western Icon “Ecstasy and Eyerolls” series. It depicts a red-hooded icon, flanked by two wolves. Although portrayed in different styles, the wolves are the very same animal posing the very same threat. The wolf in human clothing, though, just as in the Little Red Riding Hood tale, may be the larger threat if he is able to hide his true nature and gain some position of trust. The icon’s moon-like, laureled halo sheds light on the need to recognize and manage problems before being cornered in a more dangerous, confrontational situation.
