Lo and Behold, part of the “Ecstasy and Eyerolls” Western Icon series, examines what
we accept as fact, and how we cling to beliefs even when the truth is in front of our
eyes. An apple, the ultimate symbol of deception is presented as if part of a magician’s
trick. It urges us to look closely at both accepted truths as well as new facts. A bit more
investigation might prevent ironic and predictable situations caused by sticking to our
guns. Not always black and white, the truth is even harder to discern when it is
concealed by the cloak of time, language, or deception.
